Social Media: Boon or Curse

With the development of internet and worldwide web (www) in the early 1990s by Tim Burners Lee, the human race witnessed a drastic revolution in the information technology and data sharing. We, indeed are the luckiest people to have ever lived on the earth as we have seen all these progresses in our own lives. Our ancestors neither dreamt nor witnessed the perks of social media. And our progenies will know about its evolution only by studying history. But, we are the lucky ones to have lived the era.

Antimicrobial Resistance: Access vs Excess

One of the most laudable feat that we humans, who have been able to colonize this planet and prove our superiority over other cohabitants is our ability to treat the bacterial infections by the use of antibiotics.

Human Dignity And Human Rights

It is still a mystery that since when we inhabited this planet and from where did the human race evolve. But we now believe  that our species has a history of more than ten thousand years based on various dating techniques and material decay studies. Human life has always been valued and caring of the sick by other members of the community is practised. From the time when different herbs were used empirically to treat ailments before the Chriatian era to today where we witness heart, lung and liver transplants, Lobotomy, Septal myectomy, Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) and many more, numerous advancements in the field of health and medicine can be acknowledged. Since the Hippocratic time, many breakthroughs were made at different points of time. After training of physicians began in early 13th century in Italy, healthcare was systematized. The invention of microscope in the 17th century , postulation of ‘The Germ Thoery of Disease’ in the 19th century, discovery of antibiotics, invention of X-rays and use of ultrasonography in medicine, all these accelerated the medical field towards its ‘post-modern’ era.

Save Dr. Govinda KC : I am with Dr. Govinda KC

Fight for Justice , Support the truth,
Let's raise our voice as a true Patriot.

An Orthopedic Surgeon by Profession, Professor Dr. Govinda KC, from Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Maharajgunj, Nepal has challenged the corrupt Nepal government to take necessary actions for checking all the irregularities and corruption in the medical education sector by announcing his 11th fast-unto-death. All his previous episodes of fast unto death were broken by the representatives of Nepal government with a written commitment that his justifiable demands will be addressed as soon as possible. However, it is an unfortunate situation that the brave, non-violent, seeker of justice has to start yet another fast-unto-death.

Medical education in Nepal is getting more and more expensive as the private medical colleges have been a sharing a large portion of the nation's medical colleges and education. The bussiness-minded mafias and money magnates have been charging exorbitant fees with the medical students providing a poor quality education. And, the most disastrous situation is that, admissions into these medical colleges are based not on the marks secured in the entrance exams or merits, but based on first come first serve basis. Poor and talented students could not get opportunity to study medical education in Nepal even if they are willing to pay the required fees because the middle-men and agents of those medical colleges have already arranged seats for the ones ready to pay whatever they demanded.

Having acknowledged all this scenario, Prof. Dr. Govinda KC, a truly selfless man has started his 11th fast unto death demanding the admissions to be taken based on the merits and the formation a separate commission to look after the medical education system of the country. Today on Shrawan 20th 2074 B.S, August 4, 2017, It is the 12th day and his health is deteriorating. Let's pressurize the government to take necessary actions to save his live and let the justice prevail in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal

SAVE Dr. GKC !!!  LONG LIVE GKC !!!

They are forced to surrender themselves to the bully as they don't see any other resort. Next time when you see a bully bullying a victim, have some courage to interfere and raise your voice. You may be assisted by other people around you immediately. Even if not, the bully is too frightened to fight you back and continue bullying.
Let's stand against bullying and stand for the silent.
Please share this message to create a better world.

             Revived Souls

There came those shiny faces,
Exuberant with new expectations and goals,
With some sort of satisfaction on their countenance,
They began their long journey thence...

Great tribulations they had been through,
What it took to get there they only knew,
Giving their heart and soul they fought a fray,
Their mates gave up but how could they ?

Unknown faces and place as well,
Very far from where their parents dwell,
Ventured those great warriors bravely ahead,
Hoping for the best to where they were led.

Unprecedented problems they faced there,
Sleepless nights with threats and terror,
Perplexed what those strangers were doing,
They couldn't make out what on earth was going.

Some of them panicked feeling themselves daunted,
Some even rethinked was it exactly what they wanted?
Everything is transient , The law this Universe must abide,
Some awaited hopefully for the storm to subside.

As every night is followed by reviving dawn,
What they feared the most started to be fun,
Those gloomy clouds vanished, and the sky was clear,
They regained their lost smile, free of fear.

O Lord! Lead them to their destinies in upcoming years,
Nourish the treasure they carry between their ears.
Thanks almighty for you revived those souls,
And recuperated them making ready for subsequent goals....!

Knowledge Versus Wisdom

Quite akin though they seem,
Discussed over centuries and more
Mankind has reached this phase
Muddled in prioritizing Wisdom and Knowledge.

Systems have been developed,
And theories have been propounded
To enhance the levels of dexterity,
And to inculcate these virtues to our posterity

Knowledge is today free,
Not as rare as it used to be
There is indeed a paucity
Of Wisdom having immense purity.

Knowledge brags and boasts
While wisdom contemplates
It enriches the intellect,
But the knowledge merely inflates.

Degrees packed with knowledge are being marketed
Wisdom long ago was disregarded and is now obsolete
Volumes of books the knowledge wrote
Wisdom remains today only in  “Wisdom Quotes”

Knowledge has encroached and cornered the wisdom
But wisdom doesn’t even retaliate
For it knows only to smile and forgive
Unlike the furious and impetuous knowledge.
